Your Westminster candidate is Sheena Cleland, who aims to be not just another politician but a local champion for all the communities that make up this constituency.

Sheena writes:

“From Corstorphine to Kirkliston, from Muirhouse to Turnhouse, I know this constituency well.  I grew up here, have lived here nearly all my life and am strongly committed to it.  This is the third time I have stood for Parliament in Edinburgh West.  At the last election I took the SNP up to second place, so we are well placed to take the seat this time.

“Your local SNP keeps in touch regularly via local newsletters and surveys, and residents don't hesitate to let us know when they want something done!  In recent weeks your SNP team has obtained more nursery places at Fox Covert Nursery School, saved the local Council office in Queensferry, and supported greater protection for online airline customers after the collapse of FlyGlobespan.

 “If elected, I would champion jobs, community safety, prosperity and peace.  The UK Chancellor has finally admitted that he is cutting £814 million from Scotland’s budget, threatening Scottish jobs.  That means £12.8 million of cuts in Edinburgh West alone.

“The cut that most people in Scotland would support is scrapping the £100 billion Trident replacement programme .  Trident is utterly unaffordable, unnecessary and unwanted.  I will be marching against replacing Trident at the "Cut Trident not Jobs" demonstration in Edinburgh on Saturday 13^th March.

“This election is going to be close.  A larger group of SNP MPs will give Scotland a stronger voice in London.  Over the coming weeks, I hope to win your support so that Edinburgh West can send a local and a national champion to Westminster.”
